About Chenjie
Chenjie is the foundational stud dog of Old Ranch and the patriarch of the pack.  He was bred by Deborah Adams, of Orangewood RRs, with multiple strong Calico Ridge bloodlines behind him.  At first impression he is an old-fashioned looking 'throwback' Rhodesian, reminiscent of historically significant dogs such as Calico Ridge Honky Tonk Hero and The Warlord.  His grand-dam, Calico RIdge Abigail of Orangewood, went Best of Breed at Westminster at only 18 months of age.  On his sire's side are some of the earliest Rhodesians to show success in the field, such as his sire, Thorntree Krugerand Windancer, bred by Janice Schindler-Horvat, and Kruger's sire, Calico Ridge Lucky Keno.

As a puppy Chenjie was strong willed and independent, with a tremendous work ethic that foreshadowed his future achievements in the field and the hunt.  He exhibited great early potential in the show ring, ribboning all four days at the 2004 Rhodesian Ridgeback World Congress in Fort Worth TX, at nine months old, under judges from three different continents.  His first points were a five point major under judge Patti Widick-Neale, aged just 13 months, and he progressed to his championship with majors on both the East and West coast.

In the ring Chenjie shows great presence.  He is a substantial dog, with considerable bone and forechest, but it is powerful yet smooth and floating movement which is his leitmotif.  He has been exhibited sparingly in recent years, but has shown as a veteran at three California regional specialty shows.  In these he has a 100% win record, beating multiple former national champions in so doing, again under national and international judges.  It is truly a pleasure to see him show better than ever as he matures.

Chenjie's strength and movement translated naturally to success at lure coursing, where he holds both AKC and ASFA field championships, Best In Field and Master Courser titles.  He was also one of the first dogs to compete at a Hunting Ridgeback Association event in 2007 and since then has been extensively proven with upland fowl, small, medium and large game.  He is a particularly accomplished boar hunting dog and shows superior game recovery tracking skills. Chenjie has been bred selectively, but already has get with ring and field championships.  He throws puppies with his own intelligent, stable and balanced temperament, athleticism and structural excellence.  We are planning at least one Chenjie litter in 2014 and remains available to qualified brood bitches for live cover or AI.
